Studio DKS. Playful Pillows

Studio DKS. Playful Pillows

When artsist Deborah Shavlik decided to start her own line, she became enamored with fabrics — specifically felting. The technique used in this sale is a combination of needle and wet felting, which is a very time and labor intensive process, and not unlike tattooing. This process creates a fuzzy tactile design by manually adding fibers into the base wool and cashmere fabric and results in a slightly raised and crazy soft to the touch finished piece.

  About the Designer: Deborah Shavlik

Brooklyn based artist and industrial designer Deborah Shavlik started her line of soft but edgy home furnishings and accessories in 2011. After a dozen years designing lighting fixtures in corporate offices, both a creative shift and new materials to play with was needed. The majority of her line utilizes a felting process, which is similar to tattooing, and is created by combining natural fibers with wool and cashmere blend fabrics to create the softly subversive designs and iconography inspired by science and math as well as our natural world.
